Like several songs I've written recently, this one developed organically.  It began as some poetic musings following the death of my young friend, that I put aside for several months.  I found them recently and experimented with putting them to music. I subsequently added the final verse and only then began to realize what the song was about--my emerging perspective on grief and loss of all kinds.
